The UAE’s capital launches cultural app
Last month saw the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCTA) launch a comprehensive digital initiative, Abu Dhabi Culture, which acts as a ‘one-stop’ reference point for all information relating to culture in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
A part of UAE Innovation Month, the hub allows users to gain instant access to information on all aspects of cultural life and heritage in the UAE. It features a website, mobile app and supporting social media presence, and seeks to educate culture-seeking locals, expats and tourists on one level while at the same time becoming a reference point for researchers and academics.
“As part of Abu Dhabi’s contribution to UAE Innovation Month, this product has been designed to maximise accessibility to Abu Dhabi’s highly rich cultural landscape, both historical and contemporary,” said His Excellency Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General of DCTA.
“We make sure that all digital touch points are friendly as possible and our aim is to make this a trusted source of information for anyone seeking cultural information about the emirate to be considered as a ‘cultural oracle’."
In light of this, it offers personalised content, 360 visuals, interactive floor plans, and podcasts from culture experts as well as featuring a centralised profiling database across all culture locations and events.
The app is available in three main languages - Arabic, English and French – and is available on iOS and Android. It can also be accessed online at abudhabiculture.ae
The activities fall under the overarching ethos of the UAE’s innovation aspirations, intending to strengthen the country's position as a worldwide centre for leading the power of thinking.
